VANCOUVER, Nov. 26, 2018 /CNW/ - This Giving Tuesday, 7-Eleven Canada will reward Canadians who donate to The Salvation Army with a free medium Slurpee or hot beverage. On Tuesday, November 27th, the first one hundred people to make a donation on the Salvation Army website and share a screenshot or picture of their donation receipt on social media with @7ElevenCanada will receive a free medium Slurpee or hot beverage.
"Giving Tuesday is such a great way to get our fans in the giving spirit ahead of the holidays," said Doug Rosencrans, VP and General Manager of 7-Eleven Canada. "We continuously strive to positively impact the communities in which we operate and Giving Tuesday is a unique opportunity to get our fans involved."
While this Giving Tuesday campaign may be a first for the convenience retailer, 7-Eleven Canada is no stranger to giving back. Since August, 7-Eleven Canada has been helping fight hunger on a local level in Vancouver, delivering unsold food from fifty 7-Eleven stores across the Lower Mainland to The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light where they help feed over 1,200 people every day.
Wraps and sandwiches that aren't sold within 72 hours are picked up daily, delivered to The Salvation Army and served within their five-day food safe period. To date, over 33,0000 sandwiches and wraps have been donated. With thirteen percent of Canadians living in a state of food insecurity, 7-Eleven saw this initiative as an exciting opportunity to reduce food waste and fill a critical need in a local community.
"For over 65 years, volunteers and donors have generously helped The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light offer meals, shelter, and other resources to meet basic needs and help transform lives in our community," said Marianne Hicks, Manager of Community Resources at The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light. "When organizations like 7-Eleven provide support, we are able to better meet the needs of our guests, residents, and neighbours. We are grateful to 7-Eleven for giving hope today!"
7-Eleven Canada continuously strives to positively impact the Canadian cities in which they operate through initiatives that support the local community and this program is a step towards food security for more Canadians.
