TORONTO, April 17, 2019 /CNW/ - This Spring, GLAD and #CleanCanadaTogether are calling on Canadians to put a few minutes of their time towards beautifying their cities.
Currently, 19 cities have signed on to participate with their own clean-ups including Aurora, Brampton, Brockville, Chilliwack, Caledon, Edmonton, Guelph, Halifax, Hamilton, Markham, Mississauga, Three Rivers, Oakville, Ottawa, Richmond Hill, Toronto, Vancouver, Vaughan, Winnipeg.
"It's incredible to see the difference that each person can make when they take 20 minutes to help clean up an area in their community," said Dave Iacobelli, General Manager, President of Clorox Canada. "We have watched this program grow year over year and are so proud to be a long-standing partner of these cleanup campaigns."
GLAD first partnered with the City of Toronto's Clean Toronto Together Campaign in 2010. The Clean Canada Together network of Canadian communities and partners has since spread across the country, connecting pre-existing clean-ups and leading to the launch of new ones while raising awareness around the impacts of litter.
"Clean Canada Together is a great way for people across the country to help make a difference to beautify our streets, playgrounds and parks by picking up litter," says Tom Ethans, Executive Director of Take Pride Winnipeg. "Schools, businesses, community groups and individuals will work together so that Canada can be clean and beautiful."
In 2018, 24 communities – from Halifax to Vancouver – hosted over 15,000 clean-ups, with more than 305,000 participants. Over 77,000 bags of litter were collected totalling 700 tonnes.
GLAD, alongside Great-West Life and Bell Media, have been key supporters of the Clean Canada Together program.
"Each and every Canadian has an opportunity to play a part by signing up for a clean-up in their community this spring," says Iacobelli. "It's time to prove simple steps make a big difference."
