One of the rarest whiskies ever released by the distillery will retail for $36,000
TORONTO, Nov. 6, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, one bottle of the most coveted and exclusive single malt Scotch whiskies ever crafted in the Glenfiddich distillery, was released in Vancouver, British Columbia. Only 450 bottles of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old will ever be released - just 50 a year over nine years - and the final release will be in 2017. The limited edition bottle is amongst the most rare and precious ever made, with its value unmistakably reflected by its price. Listed at CDN $36,000, the bottle will be available for interested buyers at the B.C. Liquor store as of Saturday, November 7th.
"This day marks the first time that Glenfiddich has released such a remarkable product in the Vancouver market," said Elizabeth Havers, Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador in Canada. "It is a truly exceptional bottle which represents the pioneering spirit, adventurous outlook, and vision of William Grant, and we look forward to seeing this year's designation of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old find a loving home."
Glenfiddich is the World's Most Awarded Single Malt Scotch whisky, and prides itself on its pioneering spirit and strong family values. The Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is one of the rarest expressions of authentic single malt whisky, created using time-honoured techniques, and produced from the nine casks laid down in the 1930s honouring each of William Grant's children. This exquisite whisky was drawn from two exceptional casks, both matured for 50 years and married with great care by Malt Master, Brian Kinsman and his predecessors. The epitome of the brand's distinguished heritage, the beautifully matured whisky boasts a harmonious nose, complimented by a complex variety of cascading flavours.
"The Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is an heirloom and the pinnacle of our years of whisky-making," said Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich Malt Master. "As each year passes, a portion of the whisky evaporates leaving only a small and precious amount of spirit in the original cask. Pale gold in colour, with an uplifting, vibrant and complex aroma, and an exceptionally long finish, this bottle will undoubtedly pique the interest of whisky aficionados across the country."
Each bottle is uniquely hand-blown and individually numbered in wax before a solid silver bottle-neck is applied and stamped with the William Grant & Sons hallmark by sixth-generation silversmith, Thomas Fattorini. The bottle is set in a beautifully hand-stitched, leather-bound case, containing a leather-bound notebook which details the whisky's rich history. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, signed by Charles Gordon, Life President and William's great-grandson, as well as all the key long-serving craftsmen, owners can register their bottle by having the certificate personally signed by William Grant's great-great-grandson, Peter Gordon. It will then be recorded in the Glenfiddich ledger.
