TORONTO, Feb. 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Global sets the docket to offbeat hilarity with the new original series Working The Engels, premiering Wednesday, March 12 at 9 pm ET/PT. The half-hour big-hearted comedy follows the absurdly delightful trials and tribulations of the eccentric Engels family, who must band together to keep their deceased dad's debt-ridden legal practice afloat. The only problem is only one of the Engels is qualified to practice law - it's not always pretty, but it's family.
"We couldn't be more ecstatic to be back in original comedy with Working The Engels. With a knock-out script and top-notch cast, it's a show that brings the perfect amount of laughter and heart to our primetime lineup," said Barbara Williams, SVP, Content, Shaw Media. "The outrageously funny ensemble cast not only includes the brilliant Andrea Martin, but also three terrific stars on the rise in Kacey Rohl, Benjamin Arthur, and Azura Skye. Working The Engels is a superb mix of family hijinx and humour, and we can't wait to see the Engels clan embraced by Canadian viewers."
Working The Engels stars Andrea Martin (Pippin, SCTV, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) as Ceil, the self-absorbed and overly dramatic but fiercely protective momma bear who works as the firm's paralegal. Kacey Rohl (Hannibal, Red Riding Hood) plays Jenna, the youngest Engel sibling, who becomes the unlikely family patriarch when she decides to run the family's debt-ridden law firm - all while trying to keep her crazy family together. Benjamin Arthur (Less Than Kind) plays Jimmy, a bad boy and petty criminal with a heart of gold who would do anything for his family including enlisting as the firm's investigator, and Azura Skye (American Horror Story, Grimm) as Sandy, a recovering pill-popper on a self-help kick, who not having worked a day in her life is now the firm's receptionist.
Working The Engels calls to the stand an outstanding list of guest stars including SCTV alumni and Emmy Award® -winners Martin Short (SCTV, Saturday Night Live) and Eugene Levy (SCTV, American Pie), Emmy Award®-nominee Victor Garber (Argo, Alias), Emmy Award®-winner Scott Thompson (The Kids In The Hall), Gemini Award-winner Colin Mochrie (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, She's the Mayor), Gemini Award-winner Wendy Crewson (Saving Hope, Revenge), Gemini Award-nominee Jennifer Irwin (Eastbound & Down, Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays), and Sarah Levy (Larry Crowne). Behind the camera, Golden Globe® and Gemini Award-nominee Jason Priestley (Call Me Fitz, Beverly Hills, 90210) directs four episodes.
As an added bonus, GlobalTV.com gives viewers an all-access pass to the inner workings of the Engels family with pop-up anecdotes, insights, and secrets embedded in each episode. The enhanced Working The Engels episodes bring fans that much closer to the Engel family.
Working The Engels is produced by Halfire Entertainment with Katie Ford, Jane Cooper Ford, Howard Busgang, and Noreen Halpern serving as Executive Producers.
