TORONTO, April 19, 2016 /CNW/ - For the second year in a row, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport) has been voted by travellers as having one of the top ten Most Scenic Airport Approaches in the world. PrivateFly today announced that Billy Bishop Airport ranked sixth (compared to seventh in 2015) in their annual global poll to determine the world's most scenic airports, once again making it the only Canadian airport to be recognized. Other airports listed in the top ten include Barra Airport in Scotland, Queenstown Airport in New Zealand and Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport in France.
More than 7,500 votes cast by travellers from around the world determined this year's top ten airports. Located on the Toronto Islands, Billy Bishop Airport offers the 2.5 million passengers who travel through the airport each year a scenic view of Toronto's skyline and vibrant harbour as they arrive and depart from the city.
"We are thrilled to be recognized by travellers from around the globe for the second year in a row as having one of the world's most picturesque airport approaches, offering passengers spectacular views of Toronto's skyline and harbour as they fly into our city," said Geoffrey Wilson, CEO of PortsToronto, owner and operator of the airport. "As a key international gateway into Canada's largest city, Billy Bishop Airport strives to offer passengers an incredible first impression of Toronto and this award, and others like it that we have been honoured to receive in recent months, validate that we are achieving our goal."
The Most Scenic Airport Approaches Award is the third international passenger-driven award won by Billy Bishop Airport over the past two months. Earlier this year, both the Skytrax World Airport Awards and Airports Council International's Airport Service Quality Awards recognized Billy Bishop Airport as being one of the best airports in the North America.
