TORONTO, Dec. 16 /CNW/ - It's a new year and Global continues to keep primetime fresh and exciting for its fans nationwide. The network kicks off its mid-season slate in January, and this is only the tip of the iceberg…
Front and centre is the gritty crime drama The Chicago Code, set to premiere in simulcast with FOX on February 7 - 9pm ET/PT as part of Global's powerhouse Monday night lineup. The series presents the city of Chicago as a paradox that serves as the setting. During a typical ride-along, a civilian spends a shift in the passenger seat of a squad car, observing the workday of a police officer, but here, the audience is the passenger, taking an unpredictable ride through the streets of Chicago and navigating crime and corruption with the most respected - and notorious - cops in the city. From celebrated creator Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit), The Chicago Code stars Jennifer Beals (The L Word), Delroy Lindo (Up, Cider House Rules), Jason Clarke (Public Enemies) and Matt Lauria (Friday Night Lights).
Wednesday nights will burn bright with the intense heat of the South American jungle when Off the Map premieres on January 12 - 10pm ET/PT in simulcast with ABC. From Emmy® nominated Shonda Rhimes and the creative team behind Grey's Anatomy, Off the Map is a compelling medical drama that follows a group of young doctors struggling with the challenges of working in a remote clinic. The series stars Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Mamie Gummer (John Adams), plus Canadians Caroline Dhavernas (Passchendaele) and Rachelle Lefevre (Barney's Version).
"Among the wealth of popular series returning over the next few months, Global's primetime lineup is further strengthened with the premieres of The Chicago Code and Off the Map," said Barb Williams, SVP, Content, Shaw Media. "These are smart and engaging dramas featuring compelling characters. We knew from the start they'd be a great fit with our schedule, and we're looking forward to seeing how they resonate with our viewers."
Additional premieres to look forward to include Winter Wipeout on Thursday, January 6 - 8pm ET/PT, a fun twist on the original as 24 cold-climate-loving contestants bundle up to compete on all-new stunts such as the Spanker Sleds, the Wipeout Ski Lift and the Polar Bear Run for the title of "Wipeout Champion" and the $50,000 grand prize.
Bob's Burgers, an all new half-hour animated comedy joins the network's Sunday night lineup beginning Sunday, January 9 - 8:30pm ET/PT.
In addition to the new series, awards season is finally back and Global has some of the biggest fan favourites including the always crowd pleasing 36th Annual People's Choice Awards on Wednesday, January 5 - 9pm ET/PT and the prestigious 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Sunday, January 30 - 8pm ET/PT.
Come February the audiences are fully warmed up for the greatest celebration in music with the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards airing live on Sunday, February 13 - 8pm ET/PT. Drake, Neil Young, Arcade Fire, Michael Bublé and Justin Bieber lead the Canadian pack with the most nominations. Entertainment Tonight Canada's Cheryl Hickey and Rick Campanelli will report live from the red carpet for a pre-show special - The GRAMMY® Awards: ET Canada Live kicks off at 7pm ET/PT.
Then, Kitchen Nightmares returns with its fourth season on Friday, January 21 - 8pm ET/PT. Chef Gordon Ramsay continues with his one-chef mission to help troubled restaurateurs hopefully reverse their fortune as well as reignite their passion for the business.
Also, Glee makes an indelible mark in the New Year with a special episode premiering in the coveted timeslot following the Super Bowl XLV on Sunday, February 6 at approximately 10:30pm ET. Gleeks nationwide can rest easy knowing that Global's #1 comedy and the multiple-Golden Globe® nominee returns to its regular night starting Tuesday, February 8 - 8pm ET/PT.
Plus, reality fans should prepare for more intrigue and backstabbing when Survivor and Celebrity Apprentice return with new seasons launching in February and March, respectively.
