Glynn Irving receives Community Achievement Award for outstanding community involvement
ELMSDALE, NS, Feb. 8, 2016 /CNW/ - Local advisor Glynn Irving has won The Co-operators Community Achievement Award for his outstanding community involvement. The award was created to honour Co-operators financial advisors who demonstrate outstanding support for their local community, both through financial aid and volunteerism.
Glynn Irving, The Co-operators financial advisor in Elmsdale, was named the Community Achievement Award winner for the Atlantic Region. Despite only operating his agency since 2013, Glynn has actively demonstrated his passion for community involvement. He is the chair of the board of directors of the not-for-profit Tots Childcare Society, group commissioner for 1st Enfield Scouting in Tri-County, a fundraising volunteer and donor for the Caring & Sharing Angel Tree Food Bank, a member of the Student Advisory Committee for Oldfield Consolidated Elementary School and a member of the East Hants Chamber of Commerce.
Glynn is involved in a number of local sustainability efforts. His agency is a collection site for Zero Waste Box; he is part of the Adopt-a-Highway program for waste clean-up; a purchaser of organic produce from Tap Root Farms/Community Shared Agriculture; and a promoter and user of wind powered energy. According to Glynn's wife and co-worker, when it comes to community involvement, "he can't help himself ...it's just who he is and how he lives."
"We're honoured to have received this award and the recognition that comes with it. Although we're only a small office starting up – our plan is to make a large difference in our growing community," said Irving.
As a co-op, The Co-operators adheres to the seven international co-operative principles, one of which is "concern for community." The organization's 500 financial advisors are instrumental in converting this principle into action in communities across Canada. Irving's genuine concern for the well-being of his community, as evidenced by his record of involvement and support for local causes, embodies this principle.
