MONTREAL, July 3, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Through a grant of $100,000, GMCR Canada Holding Inc. (GMCR Canada), a leader in specialty coffee and single serve beverages with its innovative Keurig® single cup brewing technology, is providing the Canadian Red Cross with resources to help meet the immediate needs of flood victims as well as aid in reconstruction efforts to come.
The floods that caused significant devastation in southern Alberta are leaving the area in great need, but are also proof, once again, of the solidarity and generosity of Canadians. "Although flood victims have been able to return to their homes in most affected cities, many are still without electricity and find themselves with homes heavily damaged by flood waters," said Sylvain Toutant, President of GMCR Canada. "The situation is far from being restored and we feel for the impact this is having on affected residents. As part of this community, we believe strongly that it is important to do our part to support recovery and reconstruction efforts."
In addition to the donation made to the Red Cross, GMCR Canada is going to reach out to local organizations working on relief efforts to invite them to apply for an Employee Community Grant. Since the beginning of the crisis, GMCR Canada employees have also taken advantage of the Company's extensive volunteer program, which enables employees to take up to 52 hours of their work time to go out and volunteer within their community, to help with the cleaning operation. The Company also organized coffee donations for Calgary's four main volunteer centers.
"The tremendous community spirit that is so much a part of our purpose at GMCR Canada has been greatly demonstrated with the hands-on recovery efforts," added Mr. Toutant. "As a Company and as individuals, our contribution is a reflection of our belief that as neighbors, we have a responsibility to the communities we are connected to."
