FIT2SHRED
Extreme Fitness has teamed up with Joe Costa, one of the founding members of Mind to Muscle, to present Fit2Shred, a functional group fitness class developed to help snowboarders improve hill, halfpipe and park performance. Joe works exclusively with professional athletes, including the Canadian National Snowboard Team at Mind to Muscle. He has designed the class to mimic the dry land style training drills that he uses with competitive snowboarders and has tailored them to suit everyday boarders.
"Lots of people love to snowboard, but few put in the preparation to properly condition themselves for the sport," says Joe Costa.
The Fit2Shred program is as close as one will get to training like a pro-snowboarder, next to being on the team. It is designed to work on athletic movements including: foot speed agility, core strength, leg power, balance and overall muscle conditioning. Exercises focus on plyometric drills which are aimed to produce fast, powerful movements, much like the ones needed to carve and turn quickly on a board. Training is done using various techniques and a wide array of athletic equipment including: BOSU balls, hurdles, agility ladders, cones and extreme boards.
Fit2Shred classes are free for members of Extreme Fitness. For non-members who would like to sample the class, Extreme Fitness is offering a free trial class at no charge.
Fit2Shred classes are at the following clubs:
Richmond - Friday 5pm
FIT2SKI
Fit2Ski is a group fitness class designed to improve on-hill performance and increase overall fitness for skiers at any level. It is designed and led by professional ski coach and strength conditioning specialist Stefan Overgaard and his Assistant Coach Scott Barrett. Stefan, who was a former member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team, specializes in training and coaching national level competitive ski racers. When Stefan is on the slopes, Scott Barrett, fresh off the Canadian Alpine Ski Team, will lead the class.
In the one-hour class, participants will partake in a circuit with functional exercises using: stability balls, BOSU balls, balance boards, steps and free weights.
Fit2Ski is designed to help skiers:
- Increase speed, agility and power for the dynamic movements and
techniques needed on the hill
- Develop balance to help better control your body in various terrain
and snow conditions
- Build core strength to help stabilize your body and hold a strong
position on your skis
- Improve flexibility to prevent injury and help increase your range of
motion on the slopes
Fit2Ski classes are offered at the following clubs:
Dunfield - Tuesday, 8:30pm
Dundas - Wednesday, 7:30pm
