GO Transit offering free shuttle bus service tonight on the Lakeshore lines
TORONTO, June 26, 2010 /CNW/ - GO Transit is offering free shuttle bus service tonight for customers on the Lakeshore East and West lines to help get our customers home.
On the Lakeshore East line, GO Transit shuttle bus service will depart from Danforth GO Station at 11 p.m., making stops at each GO train station along the corridor with Oshawa GO Station as the final stop.
On the Lakeshore West line, GO Transit shuttle bus service will depart from Mimico GO Station at 11 p.m., making stops at each GO train station along the corridor with Hamilton GO Station as the final stop.
As GO Transit is unable to operate buses or trains inside the downtown Toronto area, we are providing this free shuttle bus service originating at these two Toronto stations outside of the downtown core.
We encourage customers to take a taxi, get a ride or take the TTC to get to these two locations - Mimico GO Station at 315 Royal York Rd. and Danforth GO Station at 213 Main St.
"The safety of our customers is our primary focus at this time," said Gary McNeil, GO Transit Managing Director. "As these GO Transit customers are long-distance commuters, GO Transit is committed to doing all we can to ensure these commuters get home safely."
Earlier this evening, GO Transit suspended all train operations for today due to police activity. In addition, the Union Station Bus Terminal was closed and the City of Toronto closed Union Station at the request of police.
In order to help our customers get home tonight, GO Transit also relocated our Union Station services to Yorkdale and York Mills stations. This means that customers can also get home tonight by taking buses from Yorkdale Station and York Mills Terminal. GO Transit has initiated the TTC protocol which means TTC will honour GO ticket holders travelling from York Mills Terminal, Yorkdale Station, and Scarborough Town Centre.
GO Transit will continue to keep customers updated through media, as well as GO Transit's website and E-News text and email alert systems.
Customers can reach out to the GO Transit call centre at 416-869-3200 or toll free at 1-888-438-6646.
