VANCOUVER, Dec. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Golden Queen Mining Co. Ltd. (TSX:GQM) (OTCQX:GQMNF) (the "Company") is pleased to provide an update on the construction underway on its Soledad Mountain Project (the "Project").
The Company completed site preparations and started construction of infrastructure-related items for its Project in July 2013. The estimated cost of this first phase of construction is $8million and it is expected that the work will be completed in February 2014.
Most of the recent work was centered on preparing the site where the workshop and warehouse will be constructed and a number of access roads that link the workshop and warehouse to other parts of the property as shown in Photograph 1.
Drilling and blasting was required in four areas as shown in Photograph 2. The drilling and blasting was done by a contractor based in Mojave.
Work is underway on site drainage and rip-rap lined channel as shown in Photograph 3.
A test is underway with lignin sulfonate as a dust-suppressant in two areas. The Company is evaluating the effectiveness and durability of the dust suppressant in preparation for the coming dry summer months.
It is expected that all of the first phase earthmoving projects will be completed by December 31.
Work is also continuing with detailed engineering for construction of the facilities for the Project. The civil and mechanical designs for the site water distribution system have been completed and quotations are being sought for the water storage tanks, pumps, valves and the electrical equipment. The Company has received design details and quotations for a guard shack and a fuel storage facility and expects to place orders by mid-December with delivery and construction expected to be completed in February 2014.
The Company is committed to the community of Mojave and is a longtime supporter of charitable, business and economic development activities in the region. The Company maintains memberships and involvement in multiple organizations including revitalization efforts focused on the town of Mojave.
Golden Queen has just become a Gold Sponsor of the Antelope Valley Business Outlook Conference, which will be held at the Mojave Air & Space Port in February 2014.
The Company also recently hosted a site visit for the Mojave Chamber of Commerce. Chamber members enjoyed an update on the Project and a tour of the project site. Chamber members expressed their enthusiasm at the continued progress and look forward to the next phase of development as the project activities represent a tremendous boost to the local economy.
The Company is evaluating various financing options for the Project, including equity, debt, and other alternatives. The Company estimates that construction can be completed in approximately 15 months once project financing has been secured.
