TORONTO, March 17, 2016 /CNW/ - Gord Nelson, Chief Financial Officer of Cineplex Inc., has been named Canada's CFO of the Year™ for 2016. Now in its 14th year, Canada's CFO of the Year™ (CFOY) Award honours senior financial leaders who have made significant contributions to business in Canada with demonstrated quality, insight and integrity. The award is presented annually by Financial Executives International Canada (FEI Canada), PwC Canada and Robert Half.

Gord joined Cineplex Odeon Corporation in 1988 and has since held various successive financial roles with the organization. He was appointed CFO in 2004 and now leads Cineplex Inc.'s finance, purchasing, communications, investor relations, risk management and business development groups, as well as World Gaming.
Gord is a member of the Finance and Audit Committee for the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care. He holds an MBA from the University of Toronto and is designated as a Chartered Professional Accountant of Canada and Chartered Accountant.
Canada's CFO of the Year™ Award is judged in context with various CFO functions, including: transparency of financial reporting, highest standards of corporate behaviour, non-aggressive accounting practices, and a commitment to good corporate governance consistent with current standards and evolving guidelines. Candidates are also assessed on their vision and leadership, external reporting and stakeholder relations, social responsibility, innovation, business performance and mentoring/development.
