GATINEAU, QC, May 9, 2017 /CNW/ - The government is committed to renewing the Translation Bureau as a centre of excellence ready to embrace innovation, adopt leading-edge practices and recruit the best in class.
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) today announced that Stéphan Déry has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Translation Bureau. He will assume his new role on May 23, 2017. Mr. Déry will chart a new course for the Translation Bureau that is focused on offering high-quality, expert services. Under the leadership of the new CEO, the Translation Bureau will continue to play a key role in supporting the linguistic needs of Parliament and the federal government.
The process to appoint the new CEO was open to the public to allow for the widest possible range of candidates. Two representatives external to PSPC participated in the selection committee to provide linguistic and cultural perspectives. They included a senior public servant from Canadian Heritage and another individual representing the linguistic community and academia.
In February 2017, the Honourable Judy M. Foote, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Official Languages and presented a plan for investing in the Translation Bureau, which included hiring a chief quality officer to guarantee the Translation Bureau's linguistic services are of the highest quality, and building capacity by increasing student hiring.
