Government of Canada announces appointment of Gaétan Ménard to Canada Industrial Relations Board Français
OTTAWA, May 14, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, announced the appointment of Gaétan Ménard to the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) as a full-time member representing employees on issues brought to the Board. Mr. Ménard's three-year term will commence May 19, 2014.
Mr. Ménard has close to 30 years of experience as a prominent union representative for the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP), and in 2006 became the youngest national officer in CEP's history. As Co-Chair of the Proposal Committee, he oversaw the merger between the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) and CEP to form Unifor, Canada's largest private sector union, on August 31, 2013.

- The CIRB is an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal responsible for the interpretation and administration of Part I (Industrial Relations) and certain provisions of Part II (Occupational Health and Safety) of the Canada Labour Code.
- The Board's expertise and composition allow it to deal effectively with the complexities of labour relations issues to determine the underlying causes of disputes and to facilitate agreement among the parties.
