Government of Canada Announces Appointment of New Member to the National Energy Board

OTTAWA, July 31, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, today announced the appointment of Mr. Steven Kelly as a full-time member of the National Energy Board (NEB) for a term of seven years, effective October 13, 2015.

Mr. Kelly brings over 30 years of practical expertise in working with conventional and unconventional energy resources.  For the past 19 years, he has undertaken technical, commercial, regulatory and strategic consulting projects for Canadian and international clients focusing on regional and global crude oil and petroleum markets.  Most recently, he served as Vice-President of IHS Global Canada Ltd. of Calgary, Alberta, an energy consulting firm.

• The National Energy Board is an independent federal agency established in 1959 by the Parliament of Canada to regulate international and interprovincial aspects of the oil, gas and electric utility industries.
• In 2014, the NEB regulated approximately 73,000 kilometres of interprovincial and international pipelines along with approximately 1,400 kilometres of international power lines across Canada.
• In 2014, NEB-regulated pipelines shipped approximately $159-billion worth of crude oil, petroleum products, natural gas liquids and natural gas to Canadian and export customers and NEB-regulated international power lines transmitted approximately $3.6 billion of electricity into and out of Canada.
