Government of Canada announces appointments to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Français
GATINEAU, QC, July 18, 2019 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to appointing highly qualified candidates able to best serve the interests of Canadians.
The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, announced the appointments of Lori Kennedy and Shari Nurse as Governors representing employers at the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) for a term of four years.
The CCOHS, located in Hamilton, Ontario, was created in 1978 to promote the total well-being of working Canadians by providing information, training, education, management systems and solutions that support workplace health and safety.
Governed by a tripartite council representing the federal, provincial and territorial governments, employers and workers, the CCOHS provides Canadians with unbiased and relevant information that supports responsible decision-making on health and safety issues in the workplace.

Biography – Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Appointment
Lori Kennedy – Governor representing employers
Ms. Kennedy has been working at the Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway since 1996 in various positions including positions in IT, Finance, Marketing & Sales and her current position as Director of Regulatory Affairs. She brings expertise in dealing with agencies in Canada and the U.S. relative to the safety and security of railway operations. She represents CP in various regulatory forums and industry committees in Canada and the U.S. to understand and influence emerging regulatory requirements. Ms. Kennedy engages with regulatory agencies to change or obtain relief from existing requirements in order to enable safe and efficient operations, and she works with stakeholders and regulatory agencies in Canada and the U.S. to respond to potential regulatory concerns.
Ms. Kennedy has been appointed for a term of four years, effective June 2, 2019.
Shari Nurse – Governor representing employers
Ms. Nurse has been working at Canada Post Corporation since 1998 were she held various position ranging from Manager, Project Methods and Quality, to Director, Health and Safety, Policy and Compliance, where she was responsible for developing, implementing and improving corporate policies, programs and procedures to ensure alignment to strategic, legislative and regulatory requirements. She was also responsible for monitoring the Canada Labour Code, Part II COHSR and various standards and practices to ensure Canada Post was continuously addressing requirements appropriately, as well as being responsible for coordinating and leading national safety initiatives. She also led a team of health and safety professionals across Canada in the fulfillment of policy, program and system requirements. Ms. Nurse was also responsible for the oversight of the Advisor to the National Joint Health and Safety Committees for four large bargaining groups (APOC, CPAA, CUPW and PSAC).
Ms. Nurse has been appointed for a term of four years, effective June 2, 2019.
