Appointment to ensure continued promotion and enforcement of healthy competition in Canada
OTTAWA, March 5, 2019 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced that Matthew Boswell has been appointed Commissioner of Competition for a five-year term.
Mr. Boswell has been serving as interim Commissioner of Competition since May 30, 2018. He joined the Competition Bureau in 2011 and became Senior Deputy Commissioner the following year. Prior to joining the Bureau, Mr. Boswell was Senior Litigation Counsel in the Enforcement Branch at the Ontario Securities Commission, where he primarily prosecuted securities fraud and related matters. Mr. Boswell will carry on this strong work as the Bureau continues to protect and promote competition and innovation across Canada.
This appointment was made under the Government of Canada's new approach to Governor in Council appointments. This approach supports open, transparent and merit-based selection processes that strive for gender parity and reflect Canada's diversity, to support ministers in making appointment recommendations for positions within their portfolio by providing them with information and referrals.
