SAINT-JOSEPH-DE-BEAUCE, QC, Feb. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - To celebrate their rich past and look towards a common future, residents of Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce will have the opportunity to take part in celebrations organized by the Corporation du 275e anniversaire de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada. This was announced today by the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) and Member of Parliament (Beauce), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
Throughout 2012, the Corporation du 275e anniversaire de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce will celebrate the founding of the municipality. Various popular and traditional music performances, as well as activities focusing on the performing arts, will bring together about 100 local artists. Thanks to the efforts of numerous volunteers, approximately 50,000 people will take part in the festivities.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in historical celebrations like the 275th anniversary of Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce," said Minister Moore. "By supporting such events, our Government is honouring its commitment to strengthen our economy and support our arts, culture and heritage."
"The commemoration of a town or village is an important time for the citizens who live there; it provides an opportunity to honour the men and women who contributed to building and developing it. I am proud that our Government supports such celebrations, because they strengthen our relationships and stimulate community involvement," said Minister of State Bernier.
"The Corporation would like to thank Canadian Heritage for its valuable contribution. This support will enable us to highlight the 275-year history of our community and bring the Beauce community together in a wave of celebratory pride, two essential aspects to stimulate the vitality of Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, an essential driving force in pursuing our development," said Fabien Giguère, President of the Corporation du 275e anniversaire de Saint-Joseph.
The Corporation du 275e anniversaire de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce is a local non-profit organization responsible for promoting and managing the activities associated with the anniversary celebrations.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $28,700 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
