Quotes
"Our government is committed to helping those who are the most vulnerable and empowering those in the community best-placed to help. This funding will support personalized support services and provide safe transitional housing for women who have succeeded in leaving the sex trade. I'm confident this program will make a meaningful and positive difference in the lives of many women who call the North End home."
- The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
"The North End Women's Centre (NEWC) has been providing services to women in Winnipeg for 34 years. We are very appreciative of this funding under the CPAF that will allow us to continue to serve women on their path of change. Sexual exploitation and sex trafficking is a significant challenge in our community and our province. Survivors of sexual exploitation have strongly recommended that to make a successful transition, people must be given the option of accessing safe transitional housing and supports. NEWC is responding to this need by offering up to eight beds of transitional housing as well as programming for women who can continue to live in their own community, but require supports. This program will be provided using a holistic, wrap-around, culturally relevant and trauma-informed recovery-based approach, for women when they are ready. Survivors will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to restore and maintain their own health and wellness."
