National and international promotion guaranteed for the next two years
SAINT-GEORGES, QC, June 29, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Tourism provides an excellent opportunity for economic development in Canada. The Government of Canada's investment in tourism projects reflects its willingness to support actions that generate substantial economic spinoff in the Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches regions and across the country.
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that the Corporation du Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce has been granted financial support for the Tour de Beauce.
A non-repayable contribution of $42,500 has been awarded by CED through the Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP). The funding was used in part to help promote the Tour de Beauce on markets outside Quebec and abroad, thus enhancing the area's tourism outreach and attracting numerous visitors from near and far. This year alone, the event drew 105 cyclists, 90 of whom came from outside Quebec and Canada, representing a total of 17 countires. Some 200 professionals, including the athletes, sports directors, trainers and mechanics involved in cycling, gathered in Beauce from June 14 to 18, 2017.
For the 32nd consecutive year, the world's top cyclists will have cycled the roads of the Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches regions for this major leg of the international cycling circuit. This competition is helping strengthen the visibility and international profile of the host cities and generating significant economic benefits.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
