Minister Leitch announces project in York and Durham regions to support women experiencing family violence
TORONTO, July 31, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, announced a new project to support women in York and Durham regions who are experiencing family violence.
Social Services Network of York Region is receiving $233,974 for a 36-month project to improve access to services for young South Asian immigrant women experiencing family violence in the York and Durham regions of Ontario. Through collaboration among young women, local stakeholders such as community-based organizations, the York Regional School Board, and local government service providers, an assessment will be made of the current response system for women who are victims of violence using a culture and gender lens. Recommendations will then be implemented to improve inter-agency referral protocols, and the procedures that are followed when women experience family violence.
This project is being funded under the Call for Proposals entitled Working in Partnership to End Violence against Women and Girls
