Partners come together at Sivummut IV Conference to set new course for economic development strategy in Nunavut
IQALUIT, NU, Dec. 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Minister Aglukkaq and Nunavut's Minister of Economic Development and Transportation George Kuksuk announced today an investment for the Nunavut Economic Forum's Sivummut IV Conference, where key partners will discuss and develop a renewed Nunavut Economic Development Strategy.
The Sivummut IV Conference is bringing together government officials, non-government organizations, and private sector groups from across Nunavut in Iqaluit to discuss advancing economic growth and development in the territory. The conference will focus on strategic planning for Nunavut's economy, and a renewed Nunavut Economic Development Strategy 2014-24.

- CanNor is investing $190,000 to support the conference and the completion of the renewed Nunavut Economic Development Strategy, along with the Government of Nunavut which is contributing $223,000 and the event's sponsors, who are providing an additional $30,000. The total investment for the Nunavut Economic Forum including Sivummut IV Conference is $443,000.
- The Nunavut Economic Forum was created in 2004 with a mandate to oversee the implementation of the first Nunavut Economic Development Strategy. It has 33 active members, including Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the Nunavut Association of Municipalities, the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce and Nunavut Tourism, along with many others.
- The first Nunavut Economic Development Strategy improved collaboration in numerous economic sectors and led to the development of specific strategies for tourism, mining, fisheries, as well as for the arts and crafts sector.
