OTTAWA, Sept. 16, 2016 /CNW/ - As patrons of Canada Army Run, Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will cheer on more than 20 000 participants competing in the event this Sunday, September 18, 2016.
At 7:10 a.m., His Excellency will meet with participants in the Ill/Injured/Disabled category of Canada Army Run in downtown Ottawa. The Governor General will also address athletes competing in the five-kilometre run, at 7:25 a.m., and those running in the half-marathon, at
9 a.m.
Half-Marathon Course in front of Rideau Hall's Sussex Gate
At 9:55 a.m., Their Excellencies will be in front of Sussex Gate (instead of the facade of the residence) this year to root for the thousands of participants as they run, walk or roll by Rideau Hall on Sussex Drive. This year's half-marathon modified course is due to the rehabilitation of Rideau Hall's forecourt area in preparation for Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017.
