OTTAWA, Feb. 5, 2018 /CNW/ - At the request of the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will attend the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, in the Republic of Korea, from February 7 to 12, 2018.
While in PyeongChang, Her Excellency will attend Canada's flag raising ceremony in the Athletes' Village, where she will have the opportunity to tour Team Canada's facilities and meet with our athletes. She will also participate in the official opening of Canada Olympic House, attend the Opening Ceremony and cheer on our Canadian athletes during various sporting events. During her stay, she will also meet with His Excellency Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea, to talk about the Games and the important connections between our two countries.

Her Excellency will meet with the President to discuss the Games, as well as bilateral relations and exchanges between Canada and South Korea.

Flag Raising Ceremony and Meeting with Team Canada in the Athletes' Village
Her Excellency will attend Team Canada's flag raising ceremony. Joined by Mrs. Tricia Smith, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), Mr. Chris Overholt, Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General of the COC, and Mrs. Isabelle Charest, Team Canada's Chef de Mission, the Governor General will then visit the Athletes' Village and have the opportunity to meet our Canadian athletes and coaching staff.

Inauguration of Canada Olympic House
Joined by COC President, the Governor General will participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of Canada Olympic House. She will address families and friends of our Canadian athletes, representatives of national sports federations, and COC executive members and volunteers. The event will be followed by a tour of the facility. Canada Olympic House will be open to the public from February 10 to 25, 2018.
