OTTAWA, Nov. 26, 2015 /CNW/ - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will host a forum on welcoming Syrian refugees to Canada, on December 1, 2015, at 9 a.m. at Rideau Hall. The event will highlight Canada's diversity, inclusion and volunteerism efforts to prepare for the arrival of the Syrian refugees.
"Welcoming refugees isn't just the right thing to do, it's the smart and caring thing to do, as generations of Canadians have done before us," said His Excellency. "I look forward to bringing together over a hundred leaders from the public and private sectors, as well as representatives of civil society to work collaboratively and to strengthen our national response to the Syrian crisis."
The Governor General will deliver the opening speech which will then be followed by panel discussions with key players involved in supporting the settlement and integration process of Syrian refugees to their new home country. A more detailed program will be communicated in the coming days.
Media wishing to cover the event are asked to confirm their attendance with the Rideau Hall Press Office, and must arrive no later than 8:45 a.m.
