OTTAWA, Sept. 4, 2015 /CNW/ - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will host a special event at Rideau Hall on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 1:30 p.m., in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II becoming the longest-reigning sovereign in Canada's modern era.
On this occasion the Bank of Canada, Canada Post and the Royal Canadian Mint will respectively unveil a commemorative bank note, stamp and coin, highlighting the historic milestone that Her Majesty will have reached.
"September 9 will be a perfect opportunity for us to celebrate Her Majesty's remarkable work and outstanding dedication, as well as the heartfelt connection she has had to Canada throughout her incredible reign," said the Governor General.
To mark the time when Her Majesty will become the longest-reigning monarch in our country's recent history, the Dominion Carillonneur, Dr. Andrea McCrady, will perform a 30-minute recital starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Peace Tower Carillon on Parliament Hill. The recital will include musical pieces reflecting Her Majesty's life and times.
