OTTAWA, Oct. 17, 2018 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will undertake an official visit to Saskatchewan from October 18 to 20, 2018. She will make stops in Regina, Moose Jaw and Humboldt.
During this visit, the Governor General will meet with provincial officials and community members. She will promote health and fitness by inviting members of the public to join her on a walk around Wascana Lake. She will also have the occasion to meet cadets at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Academy "Depot" Division and to see the closing ceremony of the 48th Canadian Forces Snowbird season at CFB 15 Wing Moose Jaw.
In addition, the Governor General will recognize remarkable Canadians during an honours presentation ceremony. In Humboldt, Her Excellency will present two Governor General's Commendations for Outstanding Service.

Official Welcoming Ceremony
Her Excellency will be officially welcomed to the province by His Honour the Honourable W. Thomas Molloy, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, and the Honourable Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan. She will receive military honours, including a guard of honour, the "Viceregal Salute" and a 21-gun salute from members of the 3 Canadian Division, Joint Task Force West and the 10th Field Artillery, 38 Canadian Brigade Group.

Walk with Members of the Public at Wascana Lake
The Governor General is inviting members of the public to join her for a walk around Wascana Lake as part of her new initiative called GGActive, which aims to promote health and fitness. Members of the public are asked to meet at the park in front of the Legislative Assembly, where the walk will begin.

Her Excellency will visit the Saskatchewan War Memorial to pay tribute to residents from the province who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, military training, peacekeeping operations and the Afghanistan war.

Visit to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Academy "Depot" Division
The Governor General will visit the RCMP Academy Depot Division where she will observe a mental health de-escalation tactics session. Next, she will visit the driving simulators that provide realistic scenarios to evaluate performance and to prepare Cadets for real-world policing situations.

Visit to CFB 15 Wing Moose Jaw
Upon arrival at CFB 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Her Excellency will attend the closing demonstration of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds' 48th season. Afterwards, the Governor General will tour the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) academy and meet with instructors and students.

Gathering with Humboldt Community and Presentation of the Governor General's Commendations for Outstanding Service
Her Excellency will have an opportunity to meet with Humboldt community members during a private reception. In addition, she will present two Governor General's Commendations for Outstanding Service.
The first commendation will be presented to first responders, citizens and volunteers who came to the aid of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team in the aftermath of the devastating bus crash on April 6, 2018. During the minutes, hours and days following the tragedy, which claimed the lives of 16 people, the members of several close-knit communities continued to give freely of their time and resources in support of the victims and their families.
The second commendation will be presented to the citizens of the City of Humboldt and the surrounding areas, who, although shocked and saddened by this tragic incident on April 6, 2018, demonstrated solidarity, strength and resiliency by offering steady support to the families of the victims.
