OTTAWA, May 18, 2016 /CNW/ - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will visit Meaford and Owen Sound on Friday, May 20, 2016. During his visit, His Excellency will participate in the unveiling of Meaford's new coat of arms and insignia, learn about community volunteerism in Owen Sound and attend a presentation and consecration of colours by the Grey and Simcoe Foresters.

Upon arrival in Meaford, His Excellency will be greeted by a guard of honour from the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre. After inspecting the guard of honour, he will meet with Her Worship Barbara Clumpus, as well as the working group for Meaford's new coat of arms.

Unveiling of Meaford's New Coat of Arms and Insignia
His Excellency will participate in the unveiling ceremony of the municipality's new coat of arms and insignia. During this ceremony, His Excellency will deliver remarks to mark the occasion, reflecting upon the unity of the three founding municipalities that led to the decision to create shared symbols and a new coat of arms.

Visit to the Harmony Centre and Meeting with Community Foundation Grey Bruce
His Excellency will visit the Harmony Centre to learn about the local support and initiatives provided by Community Foundation Grey Bruce. During his visit, he will provide brief remarks, then engage the audience in a question and answer period. Afterwards, the Governor General will tour the different program displays to see first-hand the positive impact the organization is having in the community.
Community Foundation Grey Bruce encourages endowment building and facilitates philanthropic partnerships within all communities in Grey and Bruce counties. It provides leadership in identifying community issues and convening discussion and presents grants to a wide variety of non-profit organizations. Presentation and Consecration of Colours
His Excellency will participate in the presentation and consecration of colours by the Grey and Simcoe Foresters, a Primary Reserve infantry regiment. The Grey and Simcoe Foresters is a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces. It is part of the 4th Canadian Division's 31 Canadian Brigade Group.
