OTTAWA, Sept. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will undertake an official visit to Newfoundland and Labrador from September 20-21, 2018.
On September 20, Her Excellency will be officially welcomed to the province in St. John's by Her Honour the Honourable Judy Foote, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador and by the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. Next, the Governor General will visit the Canadian Coast Guard's Atlantic Region headquarters.
Later, Her Excellency will go to Memorial University's Marine Institute to visit the Centre for Marine Simulation and the flume tank. Afterwards, Her Excellency will hike Signal Hill with members of the public to promote health and fitness through a new initiative called GG Active. In the evening, she will meet with members of the community during a public concert and reception at Government House.
On September 21, the Governor General will travel to Labrador to visit Canadian Armed Forces personnel at 5 Wing Goose Bay. Later, she will meet with the Mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and then walk along the Birch Island Boardwalk with local youth.
In the afternoon, Her Excellency will travel to North West River to learn about Labrador's rich Indigenous history at the Labrador Interpretation Centre and meet with community members at a reception.
A more detailed program will be issued closer to the Governor General's arrival in Newfoundland and Labrador.
