TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2015 /CNW/ - Grant Thornton employees across the country laced up their walking shoes today to take part in the Grant Thornton Foundation's first annual Making Steps Count Walk—a walk-a-thon supporting three Canadian children's charities.
More than 800 employees in 56 offices across Canada participated in the walk, raising a grand total of $77,265 for the Grant Thornton Foundation's three national charities: Big Brothers, Big Sisters Canada; Breakfast Club of Canada; and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. The company's Orillia office took the prize for raising the most funds, with Grant Thornton LLP adding $50,000 for a grand total of $127,265!
"The Grant Thornton Foundation's Making Steps Count Walk gave us a unique opportunity to make a difference in our communities," says Phil Noble, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Partner. "It goes to show that by volunteering together, donating together and working together toward a common goal, we can impact the lives of a greater number of Canadian youth and, in turn, make our communities stronger."
The Making Steps Count Walk was just one part of the Grant Thornton Foundation's year-long campaign to raise funds for its three national charities. Money raised through the campaign will go towards a variety of youth-focused programs—including funding mentor/mentee relationships through Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada, purchasing food for the Breakfast Club of Canada and supporting activities through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada that focus on healthy living, personal growth, learning and community involvement.
The Grant Thornton Foundation, established in 2011, is a vehicle designed to help Grant Thornton employees streamline their collective philanthropic efforts—whether in the form of fundraising, volunteering or donating professional expertise—to make the greatest impact possible in communities across the country.
