HAMILTON, ON, Aug. 27, 2018 /CNW/ - Green Relief Inc., an ACMPR licensed producer of medical cannabis, has expanded its operations by acquiring a 100,000 sq. ft. facility in nearby Stoney Creek, Ontario, providing a real boost to the local economy.
The facility, which will contain 75,000 sq. ft. of growing area and 25,000 sq. ft. of office space, allows Green Relief to grow its medicinal products on a much larger scale. The building will act as an extension of the company's headquarters in Flamborough and includes plans for installing a second floor, which will double the production output.
"We did not actively pursue the purchase of this building," says Warren Bravo, CEO of Green Relief Inc. "The building had been for sale for some time before we were approached by a third party to see if we would be interested in having a look at the structure. After some investigation, we realized that this deal not only made a lot of sense for Green Relief, but for the Stoney Creek community as well."
To get operations up to Health Canada's rigorous standards, approximately $9 million will be invested into retrofitting the building, initiating a significant number of construction projects that will be completed entirely by Hamilton-based engineering and construction work forces.
Additionally, Green Relief will be hosting a job fair in the coming months and is very excited to be expanding employment opportunities in the Stoney Creek area by creating approximately 100 new living wage jobs.
Late last week, media reported that the building's previous ownership group gave its current tenant, a not-for-profit soccer organization, just over 30 days to relocate. This did not go unnoticed by Bravo, who is planning to provide the organization with $10,000 in financial aid to help with relocation expenses.
"Green Relief is here to help the soccer organization with their relocation, and should the city decide to create a new indoor soccer facility, Green Relief will absolutely be contributing financially to that initiative," Bravo said.
Unlike every other licensed producer in the country, Green Relief grows organic medical cannabis using aquaponics, a sustainable growing method where fish and plants work together in a balanced ecosystem that uses 90 percent less water than conventional agriculture.
As the fish grow to market size, Green Relief donates them to local homeless shelters in the GTA. The company has been doing this for more than two years now and will continue to do so at the new Stoney Creek facility.
"While this expansion is very exciting from a business perspective, it reinforces Green Relief's mission as well as our commitment to the Hamilton community," says Bravo.
"In addition to creating new jobs, this acquisition enables us to provide roughly 30,000 healthy, organic meals to local homeless shelters each year — and there's truly nothing better than that."
