GreenField sponsors Matt White's Ethanol is fuelling the future Formula 1600

TORONTO, June 10 /CNW/ - Today, GreenField Ethanol announced the sponsorship of Matt White and his car 'Ethanol is Fuelling the Future' which will compete in the Formula 1600 race in Montreal this weekend on June 12th and 13th.
White's race car will run on ethanol blended fuel which is the same fuel that will be required under Canada's Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) scheduled to come into effect September 2010. White has been a long-time supporter of an ethanol blended fuel as a higher octane, cleaner burning fuel. For this reason he and GreenField see the partnership as a natural fit: an opportunity to promote an environmentally responsible practice that is becoming the Canadian standard.
"Ethanol is fuelling the future; the Canadian renewable Fuel Standard will be like removing a million cars from the road. The RFS will reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions by reducing 4.2 megatonnes of CO2 from the cars we drive," said Ken Field, Chairman. "We wish Matt great success in the races this weekend. This partnership shows Canadians that ethanol blended fuel has race car performance with environmental benefits."
"When ethanol is added to gasoline you get better performance and produce fewer emissions," said Matt White GreenField's race car driver. "I want to thank GreenField for their support and I look forward to being the first driver in GreenField's 'Ethanol is Fuelling the Future' race car."
Ethanol provides clean transportation fuel. Ethanol produced in Canada reduces GHG emissions by 62% compared to gasoline - helping the Country combat the effects of Climate Change. Green collar jobs are created in rural Canada as a result of the GreenField's ethanol plants in Ontario and Quebec.
Ethanol also provides an alternative fuel that helps create energy security by diversifying the sources of fuel that we use and by producing fuel locally.
GreenField is building a commercial demonstration plant to produce ethanol from corn cobs and energy crops - just one more step towards making ethanol the fuel for the future.
GreenField Ethanol Inc. (www.greenfieldethanol.com) is Canada's leading ethanol producer. The company produces 550 million litres a year of ethanol at its plants in Johnstown, Chatham and Tiverton, Ontario and Varennes, Quebec. GreenField is actively involved in the development of biochemical process technology to produce cellulosic ethanol at its research facilities in Chatham, Ontario. The company is also working with Enerkem Inc. to build thermochemical cellulosic ethanol plants.
