Gretzky Hockey School Schedules First Class for July 27-August 1
--Instructors Include Wayne and Keith Gretzky and NHL Stars--
LOS ANGELES, June 12, 2014 /CNW/ - The recently established Gretzky Hockey School—led by professional player/coach Keith Gretzky and staff, with appearances by NHL great Wayne Gretzky and other stars—has scheduled its first class for players ages 9 to 14 on July 27-August 1 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at the Frontier Ice Arena.
"Not only is the hockey school a great opportunity for young players to improve their game, but also a chance to have a memorable and fun experience with their families in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho," said Wayne Gretzky.
The young players will learn the "Gretzky Hockey Philosophy"—the same lessons Walter Gretzky taught his sons about the game of hockey—from Head Instructor Keith Gretzky, Director of Amateur Scouting for the Boston Bruins and a former pro for the Buffalo Sabres and other teams; Assistant Instructor Dean Malkoc, currently in his 7th season with the Boston Bruins; and Mark Ciaccio, the New York Rangers power skating coach; along with Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull and other hockey stars sharing their expertise.
"The Gretzky Hockey School is intended to be a fun and unique experience with on-ice skill development from some of the best instructors in the world, coupled with off-ice activities to help improve kid's skill sets," said Ty Gretzky, Wayne's oldest son and co-founder of the School. "We will ensure that each camper takes away different skills they have learned from the School and be able to integrate them with their game back home."
The school features two on-ice sessions per day in addition to daily dry land exercises, followed by a game on Friday, August 1. Instruction is tailored for specific age groups: Squirts (Ages 9, 10), Pee Wees (Ages 11, 12) and Bantams (Ages 13, 14); with four goalie slots available for each age group. There is a 1:5 instructor to player ratio.
Throughout the week, there will be guest appearances and autograph sessions with Wayne Gretzky, along with such NHL players as Brett Hull, Paul Bissonnette and Tyler Johnson. In addition, Walter Gretzky will be a special guest speaker. Limited edition Gretzky Hockey School apparel from lifestyle apparel company Sauce Hockey will also be available at the school.
All players attending the Gretzky Hockey School should be proficient in the basics of the game before attending.
Space is limited to 30 player spots and the four goalie spots per each age group and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. A portion of the proceeds from Gretzky Hockey School registration fees will go to the Wayne Gretzky Foundation, which provides less fortunate youth with the opportunity to experience the sport of hockey.
