L'ISLE-AUX-ALLUMETTES, QC, April 30, 2018 /CNW/ - An official groundbreaking was held today for the Résidence Meilleur du Haut-Pontiac in L'Isle-aux-Allumettes. The future building, which will have 12 affordable housing units for semi-independent seniors, will require total investments of more than $3.1 million.
The groundbreaking was marked by William Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation; André Fortin, Minister of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transport Electrification, and Member of the National Assembly for Pontiac, on behalf of Lise Thériault, Minister responsible for Consumer Protection and for Housing; and Winston Sunstrum, Mayor of L'Isle-aux-Allumettes.

Highlights
- Through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), the governments of Canada and Quebec are providing more than $1.1 million for the construction of this housing project, under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement.
- The Municipality of L'Isle-aux-Allumettes is contributing more than $306,000 for the development of this project.
- An amount of nearly $24,000 will be granted by Transition énergétique Québec to ensure that the building will meet Novoclimat certification standards.
- All the tenants of this housing project will benefit from the SHQ's Rent Supplement program, ensuring that they will not spend more than 25% of their income on housing. This additional assistance of $206,520 over five years is assumed by the SHQ (90%) and the Municipality of L'Isle-aux-Allumettes (10%).
