SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD, QC, June 27, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Groupe SGM unveiled the ModCenter 293, a state-of-the-art numerically controlled machine tool. Unique in the province of Quebec and only the third of its kind in Canada, it represents an investment of over $500,000.
It is during a press conference held in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, at Groupe SGM's head office, that the company presented its brand new digital equipment that precisely and rapidly cut openings in control panels.
While exponentially increasing production volume and cutting time-to-market delays, the automation of this process standardizes the quality of the final product and places Groupe SGM amongst the leaders of Industry 4.0 in Quebec.
Productive & Innovative Enterprise
Mister Peter Schiefke, Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister (Youth), took the opportunity to announce that Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) had granted a repayable contribution to the SGM Automation division of Groupe SGM to purchase the equipment. This announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister in charge of CED.
According to Peter Schiefke: "the manufacturing industry must build on innovation and focus on new technologies in order to become more competitive and increase their exportation activities, which is what Groupe SGM is currently doing. New technologies are changing the face of modern production, boosting productivity and encouraging the creation of groundbreaking products. Therefore, Canadian companies have the opportunity to provide tomorrow's good paying jobs for the middle class."
Also present at the press conference, Mister Stéphane Billette, Member of Parliament for Huntingdon and Chief Government Whip, spoke of the continued support provided to Groupe SGM by the provincial government. This assistance was most notably established by a guiding and coaching service provided through the PME en action Program.
"We have been following the company's evolution since 2015, when we selected them to be part of the first cohort of the Stratégie d'accélération des projets d'entreprises PerforME, explains Mr. Billette. The purchasing of the ModCenter 293 perfectly demonstrates Groupe SGM's aim for excellence and their innovative streak."
A Thought Out Strategic Plan
According to its President, Mister Guy Niquette, obtaining this tool was part of a logical series of decisions for the growth of the company. "From the merger that led to the inception of Groupe SGM, to acquiring Intervenants Conseils Osmose, opening a division in the United States and now starting production with this machine; each step was part of a strategy to position us as leaders in the electrical engineering field," proudly describes Mr. Niquette.
The President took a moment to thank the financial partners for their contribution, namely CED and the Business Development Bank of Canada, who made this purchase possible. Therefore, to support the creation of jobs and wealth, each authority granted an amount of $150,000.

With an increase in its sales revenue of close to 75 % this past year, Groupe SGM is one of the largest providers of electrical engineering services in the province of Quebec and a major employer in the Beauharnois-Salaberry region with over 175 employees.
