GTA home builders to work with Wynne to improve state of housing industry
TORONTO, Jan. 31, 2013 /CNW/ - Members of the Building Industry and Land Development Association are looking forward to working with Ontario Premier-designate Kathleen Wynne on improving communication between industry and government, as well as protecting the interest of consumers.
The Association, which acts as the voice of the home building, land development and professional renovation industry in the Greater Toronto Area, is looking to continue the open dialogue with provincial policy-makers and will meet with Wynne to discuss how the industry can further contribute to Ontario's economic growth.
In addition to working with the Premier-designate to realign Places to Grow with the economic imperatives of the Province, BILD looks to work with the provincial government to increase wood-frame construction to buildings of up to six storeys, which present an opportunity to build affordable mid-rise homes. BILD is also ready to work with the provincial government to examine a fair and adequate strategy for transit funding in the GTA.
"BILD has a proud history of working together with the premier-designate in her previous roles as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Transportation and Education, and we hope to continue that working relationship with her as she settles into her new role," said BILD Chair Stephen Upton.
The land development, home building and professional renovation industry is the major engine of economic growth in the Province of Ontario. Just in the GTA alone, the industry is responsible for the creation of 193,000 jobs and $10.1 in paid wages in 2011.
"On behalf of our 1,400 members, I would like to congratulate Ms. Wynne and I look forward to working with her and the Ontario Home Builders' Association to ensure that our industry can deliver affordable and diverse housing options to meet the growing needs of our province," said BILD President and CEO Bryan Tuckey.
