TORONTO, Oct. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Last Thursday, APEX Public Relations was one of the agencies that took part in the Canadian Public Relations Society's (Toronto chapter) student event called 'Passport to PR.'
As a recent student, I truly appreciate how the post-secondary institutions, professional associations and agencies are interconnected and try to foster a path from education to the workplace.
Social media is a great way for students to get a peek inside agency life and similarly for agencies to stay connected to what is going on with the PR schools in the city.
As a student of Centennial College's Corporate Communications and Public Relations program, #CCPR was the hashtag that I searched most often to see what type of information and content my classmates were sharing.
Beyond seeing what sorts of fun things were going on at the Story Arts Campus, it was a great way to supplement what we were learning in class with the constant stream of real-world lessons that were happening every day.
Even now when I browse Twitter and find interesting news stories, public relations blunders, job postings or advice for PR newbies, re-tweeting with the #CCPR hashtag is still the best way to pass on the information to Centennial students past and present.
Now that I am fully immersed in agency life, I've had the opportunity to meet graduates and students from other programs in the city.
I was fortunate enough to speak with Durham College's PR students a few weeks ago about my internship experience and now I also check-in with them. Some hashtags are more active than others, but it's nice to be able to see what's happening in the PR programs around the Greater Toronto Area.
Here is a list of useful hashtags from some local PR schools:
I may be away from Centennial and sometimes I feel disconnected from my classmates and instructors, but the #CCPR hashtag is the quickest and easiest way to make me feel like I'm still part of the community. Check in with your former college and see what they're talking about on Twitter.
