GTAA renews operations and maintenance contract with SNC-Lavalin
MONTREAL, July 22, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin (TSX: SNC) is pleased to announce that the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has renewed the company's operations and maintenance contract for the GTAA cogeneration and central utilities plant for another five years, with the possibility of one two-year extension. SNC-Lavalin has operated the power plant since it successfully completed the design and construction of the facility in 2005.
The GTAA cogeneration and central utilities plant produces 117 MW of energy-efficient power and 11,500 tonnes of chilling capacity to serve the needs of Toronto's Pearson International Airport. Built in the wake of the Eastern North American blackout of 2003, the facility has "black-start" capability, and allows Canada's largest airport to operate independently of the local power grid.
The plant has been internationally recognized as one of six top gas-fired plants operating globally by Power Magazine. It was also named IST plant of the year and received Combined Cycle Journal's 2012 Best Practice Award.
"We are pleased to have this opportunity to continue to support GTAA in the operations and maintenance of this important facility," said Hisham Mahmoud, President, Infrastructure, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. "SNC-Lavalin's involvement in this critical cogeneration and central utilities plant showcases our ability to seamlessly integrate engineering, construction and operations and maintenance services into a single high-value package."
"The GTAA is pleased to continue the relationship with SNC-Lavalin for the operations and maintenance of its cogeneration and central utilities plant," said Patrick Neville, Vice-President, Airport Planning and Technical Service, GTAA. "This latest contract renewal is a reflection of SNC-Lavalin's continued efforts to deliver a cost-efficient service that contributes toward the GTAA's overall goals."
