Gymnastics Canada - Final Olympic selection event to determine women's artistic gymnastics team set for Gatineau, Que., June 24-28 Français
OTTAWA, June 22, 2012 /CNW/ - A final selection event to determine Canada's five-member women's Olympic artistic gymnastics team be held in Gatineau, Que., June 24-28.
Twelve gymnasts were invited to the event, but that number has dropped to 11 following the withdrawal on Thursday of former Ottawa resident Talia Chiarelli due to back problems.
The event will be held at the Gatineau MultiSport Centre at 850 blvd. La Gappe.
Two competitions will be held with the first on Tuesday, June 26th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and the second on Thursday, June 28th from 11 am to 1 pm.
Results will be available as soon as possible after the second competition on June 28th.
Media are invited to attend both competitions. Interviews available with athletes and coaches after competition on both days.
Gymnasts vying for a spot on the Olympic team are:
Elsabeth Black of Halifax, Jessica Dowling of Oakville, Ont., Madeline Gardiner, Victoria Moors, Mikaela Gerber, all of Cambridge, Ont., Dominique Pegg of Sarnia, Ont., Brittany Rogers of Coquitlam, B.C., Jessica Savona of Oakville, Ont., Briannah Tsang of Vancouver, Anysia Unick of Calgary and Kristina Vaculik of Whitby, Ont.
Going into the final selection event, the top-5 ranked gymnasts based on a points system following the 2012 Canadian championships are Vaculik, Moors, Pegg, Black and Savona.
