Will serve clients up to the new tax filing deadline of June 1 and beyond
CALGARY, March 19, 2020 /CNW/ - Effective Friday, March 20, H&R Block will move primarily to a drop-off model across Canada to help prevent further spread of COVID-19. H&R Block is staffed and ready to support people in the community up to the new tax filing deadline, just announced yesterday by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and Tuesday by Revenu Québec (RQ), as June 1, 2020.
"We're in an unprecedented time, and now more than ever, the safety of our clients, our associates, and our communities are paramount. I want to thank our H&R Block franchisees and associates who are working hard to make sure Canadians get their refunds and access to government benefits and credits. We understand how important these funds are to households right now," said Peter Bruno, President of H&R Block Canada. "We are taking additional steps to protect everyone's safety as we navigate these not-before-seen circumstances together."
Drop-Off Services
For those clients who want to meet with an H&R Block tax professional to prepare their return, they will now simply drop-off their documents at an H&R Block office and an associate will do the work without the client needing to be present. A tax professional will schedule a phone interview with each client to complete their tax return and discuss next steps. This Drop-Off service is one way that H&R Block is supporting the wellbeing of local communities and that of their associates and clients. Rest assured that by moving to Drop-Off service your return will not be compromised.
In addition to the Drop-Off service, clients can work with an associate virtually using Online Tax Expert. Clients can simply upload tax documents and an associate will complete the tax filing. H&R Block also continues to offer do-it-yourself online tax preparation. Recent changes the Government has made with electronic signatures will help make it easier for Canadians with filing their tax returns.
The Wellbeing of H&R Block's Associates and Franchisees
H&R Block is ensuring the safety of its associates and its franchisees to stay healthy. To tackle this, H&R Block is increasing office cleanings, asked that anyone feeling ill not enter the office, is providing alternative work arrangements wherever possible, and is communicating regularly with all staff regarding the evolving situation.
"With more than 1,100 offices across the country, H&R Block is at the heart of nearly every community in Canada. The safety and wellbeing of our clients and associates are top of mind as the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the country," said Bruno. "As this situation changes day-by-day, hour-by-hour, H&R Block will continue to evaluate how to best help people get their refund."
