Hack, yeah! Connected Lab to host Amazon Echo Spot Hackathon
The challenge? Design an Alexa Skill to tackle everyday Canadian life
TORONTO, June 12, 2018 /CNW/ - Do you have what it takes to come up with the next great Amazon Alexa Skill? If so, join Toronto-based tech company Connected Lab on June 23 for the Canadian Life Hacks Hackathon. Working in teams of 3-5, developers and designers will be challenged with the task of building Skills for Alexa, Amazon's cloud-based voice service behind Amazon Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices, incorporating life hacks related to Canadian entertainment, travel, and children's content.
The Canadian Life Hacks Hackathon will be focused on Echo Spot and its voice capabilities. Echo Spot brings you everything you love about Alexa, in a stylish and compact design that can show you things. With the Echo Spot, you can ask Alexa to see the weather, get the news with a video flash briefing, set an alarm, see lyrics with Amazon Music, view your calendar, browse and listen to Audible audiobooks, and more.
"Voice-based product strategy and development is an integral part of our business, so we're excited to be hosting this Hackathon. I'm personally excited to see our Co-Founder and VP of Engineering Damian McCabe weigh in on the panel of judges alongside Amazon engineers and other industry leaders," says Mike Stern, CEO of Connected Lab. "Voice-based technologies are playing a larger role in how we use new products and services. From devices at home, to the vehicle you drive, and even with wearables, voice is everywhere."

The Canadian Life Hacks Hackathon will take place following Alexa Dev Day in Toronto on June 19th, an event that brings together developers and designers to learn how to create voice experiences for Alexa. The Canadian Life Hacks Hackathon is a free event for participants to apply their voice-building abilities toward building the next great Alexa Skill. In addition to working one-on-one with experts from Amazon and Connected Lab, participants will have the opportunity to win a $750 Air Canada Travel Voucher to visit anywhere in Canada as well as their very own Amazon Echo Spot.
