Halifax benefit draws Grammy winner Kurt Elling, helping youth build bridges
for new lives
Crooner here to support new training centre promoting second chances through art, education, technology and community
HALIFAX, Sept. 15 /CNW/ - Future Focus Foundation in partnership with the Board of the Bridge Centre for Art and Technology are proud to present jazz vocalist Kurt Elling headlining "A Bridge to a New Life" on Friday September 17th at the Bella Rose Arts Centre in Halifax.
The event will raise funds for the Bridge Centre for Arts and Technology, also known as Bridge CAT. Currently in development, the Bridge CAT is modeled after Bill Strickland's incredibly successful Bidwell Training Centers in the United States that provide young people who have been marginalized by society with a second chance at education and training.
"Kurt Elling will not only perform in an intimate setting, but will also talk about his relationship with Bill Strickland and the incredible work at Bidwell Training Centers that have had such a positive influence in so many urban centres in North America," says Andrew Sifton, executive director of Future Focus.
Acclaimed Haligonian word artist El Jones, who so eloquently talks about Africville, will also perform alongside Elling's band.
"What we have is an evening devoted to youth that engages and challenges not only the youth in Halifax, but the corporate establishment," says Geoff Flood, President of T4G Limited and one of the founders of Future Focus Foundation.
"Some may think Halifax is not in need of a Bidwell Training Centre like a Pittsburgh or Cincinnati, but I've seen what has been accomplished by Bill Strickland and I want to be part of the team helping create the same opportunities in Halifax for the city's young people," Mr. Flood adds.
There will be good food, good company and good deeds over the course of the evening. Bill Strickland will be on hand to talk about what has been accomplished when a positive environment helps shape people's lives and what is possible for Halifax with Bridge CAT.
This select event has a limited attendance, with ticket prices ranging from $125 to $500. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with Kurt Elling after his performance.
