Halton Hills Hydro Inc. sending crews and equipment to help with Hurricane Sandy restoration efforts
ACTON, ON, Nov. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Halton Hills Hydro Inc. is sending repair crews, bucket trucks and other equipment to assist the Long Island Power Authority in New York with emergency power restoration efforts.
The Halton Hills Hydro contingent of five power line workers, a line sub-foreman and the Manager of Operations departed early Saturday morning helping to restore power safely and as quickly as possible to the more than 640,000 customers on Long Island still without power since Hurricane Sandy devastated the northeast coast of the United States.
"We were asked for assistance on Thursday afternoon and by Friday at noon we had our volunteers and an action plan in place," said Halton Hills Hydro President and CEO Art Skidmore. "I am very proud of all of our staff who worked hard to make this initiative occur and wish a safe trip to the employees who are in Long Island."
They joined a convoy of power workers from several other local utilities including Centre Wellington Hydro, Guelph Hydro, Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro, Orangeville Hydro and Waterloo North Hydro.
"Town Council and the Board of Directors are fully supportive of this humanitarian initiative. We commend Halton Hills Hydro for stepping up when the need arises," said Mayor Rick Bonnette of the Town of Halton Hills.
Thousands of workers have been working around the clock to restore service to affected areas since Hurricane Sandy made landfall along the northeast on October 29, knocking out power to more than eight million customers. The Halton Hills Hydro team is expected to arrive at the Long Island recovery compound on Saturday evening and will likely be in the area responding to the desperate need for help for about two weeks.
