Halton Teacher Maureen Weinberger Re-Elected As Vice-President of Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario
TORONTO, Aug. 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Maureen Weinberger, a teacher with the Halton District School Board and former president of the Halton ETFO Teacher Local, was today re-elected as vice-president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) for a two-year term. She has served as vice-president since 2009.
Speaking to more than 800 delegates at the Federation's Annual Meeting, Weinberger said that
ETFO's work in professional learning, and equity and social justice is key. "As teachers, we know first-hand the impact of marginalization on students and in school communities, and we understand the importance of creating inclusive classrooms and learning."
"ETFO's voice in Ontario is clear and strong. We must continually respond to the constantly changing needs of students and our members to ensure that the education system remains strong. Fostering multiple perspectives through collaboration and dialogue is a key part of our strength."
Weinberger began her teaching career in 1976. Her teaching assignments with the Halton District School Board have included Kindergarten to grade 8, teacher librarian, and guidance. She was recently elected vice-president of the Canadian Teachers' Federation.
Weinberger was president of the Halton Local from 2002 to 2008, having served on the local executive since 1998. Provincially, she has participated on, and chaired a number of the Federation's task forces, and has been an Executive liaison to ETFO standing committees for the last four years. Committed to her local community, Weinberger served on the Board of Directors of Community Development Halton, and as a member of Poverty Free Halton.
