Halton Teacher Re-Elected Vice-President of the Elementary Teachers'
Federation of Ontario
TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - Maureen Weinberger, a teacher with the Halton District School Board, was re-elected as vice-president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) at the Federation's annual meeting in Toronto today.
Weinberger has been ETFO's vice-president for the past year. Her teaching assignments with the Halton District School Board have included kindergarten-grade 8, teacher librarian, and guidance.
In her presentation to annual meeting delegates, she noted that the Federation has the respect and admiration of the provincial, national and international community for its work in equity and women's issues. "This respect is justly deserved," said Weinberger.
"As we witness the effects of marginalization on students, families, and communities, we know it is important that this work and our leadership with it continue. I remain a vocal and passionate advocate for these issues."
Weinberger was president of the Halton Teacher Local from 2002-2009 and served on the local executive beginning in 1998. Her provincial federation involvement includes participation on the Representative Council Steering Committee, the Regional Services Task Force, and the Provincial Member Survey Task Force. She has been active in her local community as an election volunteer for local NDP candidates, and as the president of a community board of directors.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents more than 76,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
