Harmony Village Lake Simcoe Partners with Canadian Red Cross to Expand Services to Barrie Seniors
Development will also provide office and clinic space to Red Cross as part of its commitment to community
TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Red Cross and Harmony Village Lake Simcoe -- a visionary residential development concept by City Core Developments -- have embarked on a collaboration to provide enhanced services and supports to seniors across Simcoe County.
Harmony Village Lake Simcoe, a mixed-use development concept planned for Barrie's waterfront, is designed to provide a balanced lifestyle for baby boomers as they move into retirement. As part of its commitment to the region, the developer is partnering with the Canadian Red Cross to offer a wide range of health and lifestyle resources to Harmony Village residents and the public.
The Canadian Red Cross is a leader in the provision of community services to promote independence, wellness, and social interaction for the many Canadians who are choosing to remain in their homes as they age and manage their own health needs. With dedicated office and clinic space in the proposed Harmony Village Lake Simcoe development, the Canadian Red Cross is planning to expand its current service offering to seniors across Simcoe County with an array of important services, including:
- Home visits for nursing and personal support assistance;
- Social work services;
- Health and wellness promotion and education programs;
- Adult day programs;
- Rehabilitation services;
- Nutrition services;
- Health equipment loans.
"This partnership demonstrates Harmony Village's commitment to giving back to the community, in this case working with the Canadian Red Cross, to help expand important services and programs for seniors in the region," said Jack Pong, President & CEO of City Core Developments and Harmony Village.
"We cannot ask for a more respected, experienced and able partner in our mission to enhance the lives of seniors and their families in Barrie and surrounding communities," said Pong. "The Canadian Red Cross is a leader in providing community health services that allow seniors to remain living in their homes safely and with dignity, aligning perfectly with Harmony Village's core beliefs."
"This partnership with Harmony Village, which includes centrally located clinic space, is an ideal opportunity for the Red Cross to increase our services for Barrie residents," said Lori Holloway, National Director of Health Programs for the Canadian Red Cross. "Our top priority for seniors is to provide them with the support and resources they need to maintain an independent and active lifestyle."
The Harmony Village Lake Simcoe team is currently working with the City of Barrie regarding its application for a mixed-use development along the waterfront. The development includes residential buildings surrounding an open park space with a mix of shops, cafés and restaurants as part of the street front retail experience. The enhanced community services that will be provided to the public, such as the partnerships with the Red Cross and other community groups, are made possible by revenues generated from the residential buildings. No financing is required from the public sector or the City of Barrie.
