OTTAWA, Nov. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today indicated his strong support for the leadership and financial contribution announced by the Royal Canadian Legion for the University of British Columbia's (UBC) Veterans Transition Program.
This important financial contribution, in addition to the Harper Government's support of up to $600,000 over four years for Veterans to participate in the Veterans Transition Program, is another important element in providing Veterans with the care and support they have earned and deserve.
"I congratulate the Dominion President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. Gordon Moore and the Executive Director of the Veterans Transition Program, Mr. Tim Laidler for coming together on this innovative program that will help those who are leaving the Canadian Armed Forces and help them through this transition," said Minister Blaney. "The Legion has long supported this important initiative, and we are pleased to see that this partnership will only continue to grow into the future."
When private sector, government, and groups like the Royal Canadian Legion come together, their collective expertise and resources provide even greater opportunities and support for Canada's Veterans as they leave the forces and make the transition to civilian life.
"As we near Veterans' Week, this is an important time to honour and remember Canada's Veterans, but also a great time to support innovative partnerships and programs that will help meet their needs and demonstrate our commitment to Veterans."
