Connect with nature and rediscover history at national parks and national historic sites across the country
OTTAWA, June 26, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, announced free admission on Tuesday, July 1 at all national parks, national marine conservation areas and Parks Canada-administered national historic sites across the country in celebration of Canada's 147th birthday.
Through initiatives like these, the Government of Canada's National Conservation Plan is taking concrete action to connect Canadian families to our natural spaces in order to foster an appreciation for nature and build a "community of stewards" among Canadians of all ages.
In addition, Canada's national historic sites tell the incredible story of Canada. These treasured places enable us to experience our rich history and heritage in a special way and play a big part in the Government of Canada's Road to 2017 as our country nears its 150th birthday.
The ongoing work of Parks Canada and programs – like the Xplorers program, Learn-to Camp and special events and exciting new activities and programs across the country – are enhancing visitor experience and facilitating personal connections with Parks Canada places. Parks Canada is meeting its promise to Canadians to protect and facilitate the discovery of Canada's natural, historic and cultural treasures.
