ALLISTON, ON, Feb. 22, 2012 /CNW/ - Audiences in South Simcoe will continue to enjoy diverse artistic performances, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada. This was announced today by Dr. Kellie Leitch, Member of Parliament (Simcoe-Grey) on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The Gibson Centre, in Alliston, Ontario, is a historically significant landmark where cultural activities take place in the performance hall, gallery and arts programming spaces. With this investment, the Gibson Centre will present its 2012-2013 performing-arts series, which showcases artists from across Canada and features a variety of performances, including music, dance, theatre and children's programming.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in important arts organizations like the Gibson Centre," said Minister Moore. "By supporting organizations like this one, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and create jobs and growth throughout Ontario."
"I am pleased to announce our Government's support to the cultural strength of South Simcoe," said Dr. Leitch. "Thanks to the activities of the Gibson Centre, this community has access to quality artistic experiences that bring in tourists and inspire creativity in residents of all ages."
"The Gibson Centre appreciates the Government of Canada's support to ensure that the professional touring performing arts have a home in South Simcoe," said Angela Drainville, Executive Director, Gibson Centre. "The investment will assist us in providing open access to a wide variety of art forms and artists in our rural community."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $20,000 to the Gibson Cultural Centre Corporation (Gibson Centre) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
