Ensuring Canadians have access to quality health services in both national languages
MONCTON, NB, May 30, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, today announced an important investment to support 14 projects across the country that will improve access to health services for English-speaking communities in Quebec and French-speaking communities outside of Quebec.
The projects will support the training and integration of more bilingual healthcare professionals in national language minority communities; strengthen health networks across the country; and implement new projects to expand access to health services in the minority national language. They are being funded under the Government's Roadmap for Canada's Official Languages 2013-2018: Education, Immigration, Communities.
As part of the announcement, Minister Valcourt announced three projects being funded in New Brunswick, which are with Ministère de l'Éducation du Nouveau-Brunswick (Fredericton); Université de Moncton (Moncton); and, Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (Bathurst). These projects support post-secondary training programs in several health disciplines to improve the supply of bilingual health professionals across New Brunswick and in the other Atlantic Provinces. The remaining projects will be announced in the coming weeks.
